And there off.....
------------------
<PENCOLOR>1
The time had come around once more, it was N.A.G. meet time again, I never
expected the same amount of people to turn up as last time and indeed, I was
right, however, it was as much, if not more fun than the last meet.
I imagined the meet to really kick in on the Saturday however, most of the
arrivals turned up on the Friday so, with little time to make final
preparations the 2nd bi-monthly N.A.G. meet was well under way...

FRIDAY!
Friday saw a day of mixed emotions as far as I was concerned, already we were
laughing at gordons storey's tiny little mono monitor, he defended his 'baby'
with avengence stating, quite truthfully that the picture was rock solid, I'd
never actually seen a high rez picture 'in the flesh' as it were and although
only black and white I was VERY impressed [though I did my best to hide it by
constant mickey taking] :)))
Steve, Gordon Richard Clark and I had already set up our machines, Pete hooked
up his EZ drive to one of my STe's.
We were cooking.....by way of my main lounge t.v. and my portable t.v. we had
deathmatch doom running almost immediately although, as you might have seen in
my editorial, we were less than impressed to have found that the sound wasn't
carried by the 'ribbon link'. We tried different Jags but the problem STILL
persisted, still, we found that having no sound did allow for more atmosphere,
[more on the doom torny later] although it wasn't sufficient to disperse our
utter disappointment :((
Demonstrations of Pagestream was hosted by Gordon and in between his
frighteningly realistic monkey impressions we caught a glimps of why this DTP
package was so popular, so popular in fact that I persuaded Gordon to lay on a
tutorial for ST+....
Also showing was the early test issue of ST+, comments ranging from IT DON'T
BL00DY WORK IN HIGH REZ!!!' to 'cor, that looks REALLY! good, dave' resounded
about the room, suffice to say I'm hoping to have some feedback for next issue.
The rest of Friday saw activities ranging from the first ever Deathmatch
SUBSTATION [thanks to Pete's midi link cables] game to some assembly coding by
Steve, hopefully ST+'s high rez problem will soon be solved.

SATURDAY
...or was it still friday?....either way it was the wee small hours, Doom was
getting attention through out the weekend, on and off, but most of saturday was
spent swapping software, PD was flying about from drive to drive, Gordon was
still Ooo Ooo'ing and best of all, I got meself a new catchphrase:
'Where's me Baccy tin?...'
This came about after I, on numerous occasions keep misplacing my tobacco tin,
in the end I almost brought shares in Gordons baccy pouch :)))
Pretty soon CiH and Feliece arrived, not long after we had Chris's Falcon set
up and running..er, running, a few new features had been found and Chris was
eager to demonstrate them
A trip to PC world by a few of the chaps ended abruptly after they found it
was closed...so much for bargain hunting... Meanwhile Steve was impressing a
few bods with his new 8 track version of his future impressions .MOD that he
was creating with more than a little help from Chris's Falcon, a twin
Monitor/T.V. setup saw, not only Stereo Sound but also Stereo vision, it would
seem that the sound on Chris's monitor was either not working or simply not
good enough...I'm not sure which.
Sleep!....this was on a lot of peoples minds yet still, with little or no rest
we plodded on through the day, I had a fiddle with pagestream, much to Gordons
horror! 'SPACE' he kept saying...Space!'...
More doom ensued, deathmatch torny time, the final result being:
Steve -|
>------- Steve -|
Felice -| |
>------ Steve ---|
Richard -| | |
>-------- Pete -| |
Pete -| |
>>>> TIE!...
Gordon -| |
>-------- Gordon -| |
Bye -| | |
>------ Dave ---|
CiH -| |
>------- Dave -|
Dave -|
....Steve and I found ourselves evenly matched, after a VERY long winded series
of 'chase - get powerups - hunt - repeat' we decided to call it a tie, to be
honest I feel this was VERY wise for should we have continued we'd STILL be
playing right now!...
The evening drew in, Chris and Richard S left although the fun didn't end
there, Richard Clark decided to treat us all to some yummy, and much needed
choccie, Yrkie bars flew about the room...Gordon almost flew after them, a
round of choccie and a few green faces later and we all started drifting once
more into unconsciousness......

SUNDAY
The last day for almost everyone, Pete left before I had even risen from my
slumber, 7.00am I believe he left at, the rest of the day was spent winding
down, CiH popped in once more.
After yet more Doom and PD swapping the day wound up with Gordon and Richard C
setting off for home, this left just CiH, Steve and I.
Chris and Steve sat discussing all the in's an out's of coding, demo's ect.
whilst I made a concerted effort to get this issue of ST+ out on time.
Finally Chris also left, Steve and I spent a few hours in front of the telly,
the simpsons being the prime Diversion from out pooting weekend, finally, my
body said enough, at about 10Pm I collapsed on me bed.

MONDAY
The final day....
Steve and I were all that remained of the July N.A.G. meet, after a few hours
general dossing and wibbling we decided to see if we could resolve the
deathmatch doom torny without an audience to see if that might help...it
didn't, still evenly matched we tried for a few hours on and off but to no
avail.
Finally, at about 8.00pm Steve's dad arrived, shortly after Steve was on his
way home [plus one Jacket that had previously left behind on the first meet].
The rest of the evening was spent rearranging my computer desk to allow room
for my new Phillips monitor [thanks again, Pete!.].
Unfortunately I've probably missed out quiet a bit of what went on but alas
time and memory are not on my side, I'm hoping to have a few missives for next
month that'll give more insight as to what goes on here, keep your eye's open
for them.. :))
Dave......
Creeping up almost to the point of stealing onto the disk comes CiH's
missives, probably remembering a few bit's that I'd forgotten... :))

We've all just had a lovely ST+ or Northants Atari Group weekend at his
house, where you could have thrilled to the sight of Steve Moore avidly
playing Deathmatch JagDoom against an empty chair for the five or so
priceless minutes before he realised that he was opponentless as Felice had
abandoned the match.. There was also the Pete Augustin interlude on behalf
of Microsoft.. "Windows 95 is a proper plug n' play system, honest! It's
just that it doesn't work properly yet!" (I'm not having a dig at Pete, if
that's what it looks like..) Thankfully, chilli and its effect on the lower
bowels did not come into this gathering, and there were fewer people than
were at the first meeting.. This was not too bad a deal, as we had more room
to breathe, and there was a higher ratio of computers to people.. Nobody
(Felice) accidentally arsed up the presets on my Falcon whilst I was out of
the building this time either, which was a major bonus..
Steve Moore spend a lot of time on said birdy named computer, turning one of
his better known four channel modules into an eight channel one.. He would
have finished this on Saturday, apart from a mysterious 'zero byte save' bug
that rudely got in the way as we were in sight of the finishing post..
Frustration ruled, and completion sucked, but we got it done in the end on
Sunday..
CiH....
